TKT – The Teaching Knowledge Test
TKT is a new Cambridge ESOL test aimed at increasing English
language teachers’ confidence and enhancing their job prospects.
It focuses on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers
of primary, secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world.
The areas covered include:
- Different methodologies for teaching
- The 'language of teaching'
- The ways in which resources can be used
- The key aspects of lesson planning
- Classroom management methods for different needs
This test is ideal for all teachers (native or non-native), whatever
your background and teaching experience.
Whether you have been teaching
for sometime and would just like a refresher or to widen your range
of teaching methodology, or whether you are an entry level teacher
with no classroom experience, this is the course for you.
TKT has three core modules, which can be taken in one exam session
or separately in any order. The modules are:
Module 1 – Language and background to language learning and teaching
Module 2 – Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching
Module 3 – Managing the teaching and learning process
At Oxford House College, our TKT courses are 15 hours per module.
You can register for all the modules, or choose the module or modules
you are interested in.
For a candidate to enter the TKT, Cambridge ESOL require
the candidate’s level of English to be CEF B1 (IELTS 4) or above,
but at Oxford House College, to get the most out of the course,
we recommend the candidate has completed at least upper intermediate
level. (CEF B2+ ).
Overseas Teachers of English Course
These courses are designed for overseas teachers of English or
those about to enter the profession. Most English lessons in the
world are given by people whose first language is not English.
We refer to these teachers as Overseas Teachers of English.
You can choose to study for any length of time, and each week
can be taken as an independent unit, starting any Monday. To join
this course you need an upper-intermediate level of English or
above.
Each week, your full-time, 20-hour course comprises of 15 hours
of class tuition in a group (including 30-minutes break), and 5
hours of varied activities including observation of OHC classes.
